After much thinking, I have decided to close down the .com website and move all my items back over to Etsy. I was finding that I didn't have time to run a website, etsy store, and now that my daughter is older and more involved with after school programs and going out with friends...which meant us running her around (kinda can't wait until she is driving...) that I just didn't have time to promote like I wanted too. And with Etsy they promote their self and have lots of traffic. I will be adding all our items over the next few weeks so please bookmark our etsy store. And you can always contact me for any custom order you wish to place. Plus I will be posting on the blog too. And if you are on facebook, please "like" us too.

I have had a few emails asking if everything was okay or wanting to know where in the world I am. I am still here. I decided to take some time of durning the Holidays and enjoy some much needed family time. Then this month my daughter had school exams and if they passsed then they didn't have to go back until the 25th. so it's like being out for Christmas break all over again. But I will be back into the swing of things come February.

New Checkbook Cover

Does your checkbook cover look like mine?? Yes, I was still using the regular old plastic type that you get free for your checks. The corners looked pretty bad. They were all torn and not very pretty.

But not anymore!! I grabbed up some fabric scraps and turned on the sewing machine. I love my new checkbook cover. Look at those corners now......pretty.

I think it turned out really nice. My husband came home and I told him that we didn't have to order a new cover because I made one. He liked it and said I should sell them.....of course, he is my biggest fan!! :)

I was thinking that if I get brave enough I would make another one and do a tutorial.

Table Top redo

I love to furniture shop, old furniture shop. There is just something about taking old and giving it new life. I spotted this little table in a consignment shop and every time I went in there I was drawn to it.

It wasn't pretty, just a plain old table. I didn't even know what I would do with it, but on the four trip to this shop I decided to get it. It was around 16 dollars so it was a pretty good deal. I have had it for some time and had forgotten about it. One day my husband said he was going to do something to it. (I think he was tired of it being in his shop....ha!) I am so happy he did.

He fixed the rough edges, sanded it and painted it. And then he took an old dictionary and tore out pages and placed on top. After many coats of sealer, I love it. When he decided to do the pages he picked out pages with the words....love, beautiful, daughter, family, proud and more like that. My daughter uses it as her side table.

Summer is coming to a end....

Sadly our summer is coming to a end..... I can't believe my baby girl will be back in school in a few weeks. I am getting a little sad knowing she will not be with me during the days.

I know some of my readers are probably thinking "what in the world happen to her.....she didn't even blog in July". I am so very sorry. I went on vacation for the 4th of July and after that there has been so much going on.

My dad went in for a check up and ended up having to have Triple Bypass Heart surgery. After the surgery he started bleeding so they thought they were going to have to go back in and open him up, but praise the Lord they didn't have too. After that he had to have blood given to him twice which in turned caused him to have fluid in his lungs, and then he had trouble breathing. It was a hard time for him. After being in there for two weeks he was able to go home. He is staying with my sister and her family until the doctor turns him lose. I am so thankful he is doing better.

This is a week after his surgery. Looking a lot better.

Poor dad, they have stuck him over and over trying to get IV's in.

I am glad that summer is here. No more asking my daughter what is for homework, got any papers that need to be signed, is your book sack ready for tomorrow...etc!! This summer is making me feel old though. I have one niece that graduated from ECU, one niece graduated from High School, and my daughter finished up Middle School and is entering HIGH SCHOOL in the fall. How is that possible????

It breaks my heart to see my baby grow up. My only baby... I miss the days when she was little and wanted to crawl up in my lap so we could read books. She is really growing into a beautiful young lady, can't wait to see what the future holds for her.

Here is a photo of my daughter and my niece that graduated from high school. I use to babysit her and she would come stay with us.....still does!!!! I will miss her when she goes off to college.

At my kitchen window I have a Humming bird Feeder hanging. For the past two weeks I have had them coming everyday. They are fun to watch, and very fast. It was so hard to get a good photo of them. I will have to go out side and sit and try that way I guess.....

On Thursday I was sitting in my house and hard this load noise. I took a look outside and saw a car running off the road and was headed right to our large pecan tree. I ran to the phone and called 911. I was so afraid for the driver and anyone else in the car, I knew it wasn't going to be good. There was only one person in the car, and she was okay. She did have a large mark on her neck from the seat belt, and was shaken up pretty bad. I felt so bad for her. She was just a crying and scared. They did take her to the hospital to get checked out. Later that night her, her boyfriend and her mother stopped by. I was glad to see her, I had thought of her all day and was glad to see she was okay.

She hit the other side of the tree and when she hit the tree it spun her car around.

I am so THANKFUL she is okay.

Just look at that teeny tiny itty bitty widdle apple tree. (I have two of them.) Isn't it cute? It might be a long time before I pull an apple off of this tree but it's very special to me. My daddy started it himself with a seed. I hope one day (many years from now) that I can walk my grand kids out and pick apples and tell them how their Great Granddad started the tree.

While we were gone....

We decided to take a few days and head to the beach. While we were gone there was lots of storms that came through our home area. We left by lunch and drove in rain and lots of wind. We had no idea what we were leaving behind. Tornado's hit the central NC area. I last heard I think there were around 80 some touch downs.

One touched down about 5 mins from our house. (in Micro) and it was pretty bad. Thank the lord we didn't get any damage. We called some family members that live beside us and down the road and things were okay. I feel so bad for the ones that did have damage. It touched down at our local high school too.
It torn up the baseball field, dug outs and a small building.

This house was moved off the foundation. And lots of trees were down.

This was a small trailer park that was damaged really bad. I feel so bad for those that lost their belongings. I drive by this place often, and Micro is a small community with LOTS of nice people.

We came back three days after the storms so we couldn't get to many photos, they had roads closed off and lots of cleaning going on. Another place I go to alot is Wilson. They were hit pretty bad too. I go to the Walgreen's there and they got damage and cars in the parking lots were flipped over and moved.

I HATE a thunderstorm, wind, or tornado so if I had been home when this was going on, I would have just cried....I am so scared of storms.

You can visit WRAL and view photos and videos of the tornado's. We have watched a lot of them. Mother Nature isn't no joke!

Spring Break....

I always know when Summer is right around the corner. I start seeing this in my back yard.... Yes I live out in the country. Ha! My father lets someone farm on his farm land. He normally grows soy beans. I use to love it when they grew wheat, it was always so pretty and when the wind would blow it would look like waves. But the soy beans aren't that pretty...lol. Today was the first time he came out and sprayed the fields. When it's cool I will open the windows and enjoy the sound of the tractors or big trucks coming in and out. ( My dogs on the other hand do NOT like the sound of them) I love living in the country!!

Well, I wanted to list some new Ponytail Holders today BUT I have spent the whole day fighting with my computer. I have a favorite software that I use to edit and resize my photos and today it just wasn't going to work. It would crash and not respond to anything I did. But I think (hope) I have it working half way now so if I can get them ready and I will be listing tomorrow. They are super cute. Great to wear on those hot summer days. Perfect for girls and adults. I'm not the Weather Channel but I can tell you I am not liking this weather we are having. A week and a half ago we were in the 80's and warm. NOW........ I can't believe it's going to be 48 on Wednesday, and guess who has a track meet that day, Miss Shelby does and that means I will be sitting out there freezing. Maybe they will get rained out. Ha! Thrifty Fun

The other day I had so much fun!! The hubs and I went on a thrift shopping trip...literally. We left the house around 8 am and didn't return until alittle after 6 pm. It was a good day, well other than driving in traffic (I can't handle that without stressing out some). We went to 4-5 stores, we were out looking for furniture for my hubs re-finishing business. There is nothing like a good deal. And we SCORED some tables at a REALLY GOOD DEAL.

We bought four pieces for under $20.......yes, I said $20. We found two drop leaf tables that were in the FREE section. They were going to throw them away. I was like no no no....that's crazy. Now don't get me wrong, theses babies are in BAD shape, but nothing my man can't fix. He loves working on furniture and to get them free was icing on the cake. Then I found a cute corner table that needs some love, and a new top. It was only $15. At our last stop I spotted a cute tiny foot stool....for only $2.75 Can't wait to get working on the stool.

The second table was in BAD condition. But when my husband gets done with it I know it will look great. It's hard to see real wood furniture thrown away...it just needs some work and it will be back to life.

Ok, let me tell you about this chair. Someone tossed this out on the side of the road one day. My husband drove by it and noticed it. So after a few days no one came and picked it up so guess who stopped and brought it home???? He did. I have laughed at it, I call it his "ditch find". It is cute and I have only upholstered one other chair so I am looking forward to redoing this one too.

This year, so far, is starting off with a bang. I received my first three custom orders for this year, and my husband has a table to redo. He loves repairing/re finishing furniture and I hope that one day he will be able to stay home and work on that instead of leaving to go to work.

I have a few new items to show this year, but first I have to kick my way into my workroom and clean it up. Over the holidays it was my "catch all room"....and it caught alot!! Do you have a room like that??

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We sure did!!

Then the morning after we woke up to about 12 inches of snow. It was so pretty. My niece came home with us on Christmas night and stayed so she and Shelby could play in the snow.

Old Man Winter

It looks like Old Man Winter decided to make a visit to NC. Early this morning we received a dusting of snow along with freezing rain. It was enough to cancel school for the day.

It really doesn't take much to close schools around here. Our driveway was covered, and hubby said it was a little icy on the roads in spots.

I needed to make a drop off at the post office, guess I will make it tomorrow.

Weekend Wrap Up

Can you believe another weekend has come and gone??

How was your weekend?
Mine was a wash out....literary! It rained pretty much the whole weekend. I would have liked to have gone to a local Christmas parade but just didn't think I would enjoy it that much standing in the rain. So I stayed home and cleaned the house and cooked up a large pot of chili. :-) We did get out today and picked up a few more Christmas gifts. We are almost done!!

I also did some sewing, I have lots of family gifts to get done this coming week and a birthday gift too. And I have about six wristlet key fobs to get done for my daughters teachers. Looks like I am going to have a busy week ahead, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

There once was a sad little Christmas tree....

There once was a sad little Christmas tree located in a cute little sewing room. It had no lights to make it shine, or no fancy ornaments. It was just S.A.D...sad! So the seamstress felt bad and decided to add a little color to it.

Like my little tree? Ha! I ran out of lights and small ornaments so for a while I just had this little plain green tree in my sewing room. But last night I was looking at it and noticed the glass jar of tiny spools of thread and decided to add them to the tree. Now it's colorful and happy!!

Yes, it snowed here in NC. Something we don't see to much of and not this early. Normally most of our snow comes in Jan/Feb, so it makes me wonder if we are going to have a crazy winter. I love snow....that is if I have no where to go. I love wearing pj's, sipping on hot chocolate and laying curled up under a blanket all day watching the snow fall.

It didn't snow alot, and it didn't stay around very long. BUT it sure was beautiful falling from the sky. We were out shopping at Walmart and my daughter started getting texts from her friends that it was snowing so we went outside (at the garden section) and it was. Lucky for us the roads were warm so it didn't stick on the roads and we were able to get home easy.

So my daughter decided to run outside and get a picture of our first snow of the winter.....hahaaaa she already changed into her "lay around" clothes, but she didn't care.

Sophie Houdini

We have a new puppy, well she is about 5 months old. Her name is Sophie, and honestly I wasn't the one that wanted her. My hubby and daughter wanted her, and her owners couldn't keep her so they were giving her away. Yes...we got her!! Oh I wasn't expecting to fall in love with this little one...but I did!

She is too funny! Loves to run, play and JUMP! Now she loves to digg....
Today I gave her a new name....Sophie Houdini!! She exscaped from her pen once last week. Today, she exscapes TWICE. This morning after carrying Shel to school I drove up to find her sitting in the back yard sweet as ever. She had this look on her face like "surprise I got out all by myself" Then later I looked out and she was laying on the outside of the pen playing with a toy....WHAT...again. Good thing is she doesn't even run away. She just sits/lays on the outside just as happy as ever. Well hubby found the hole and fixed it. I wonder what tomorrow will bring with this cutie???

The other day we carried her to the park and she loved it. She was so smart on her leash. We walked all day, played with her toy and had snacks and water too. Here's a few photos from that day...

Last weekend we celebrated a few birthdays (Niece, Sister in Law and Brother in Law) at my sister's house. It was so nice spending some time with the family. While we were there, we also got to visit my sister's friends from Sweden. We have know them for years now and it's always fun to see them. This year was special......they brought their little baby boy with them.

How cute is he? His name is Thor and is about 6 months old.

Shelby took a liking to him too!! How could you not...with a sweet face like that.

Custom Order is ready

Today I was able to get into the workroom and play with fabric, and hear the roar of the sewing machine. I was a happy lady! :-) I had a custom order for a purse made with Betty Boop on motorcycles and one purse from fall green fabric. I really like the way they turned out.

It's so true, hard work does pay off.
I have to brag just alittle bit... I am now a Volleyball Mom. My daughter tried out for the volleyball team at her middle school last year and didn't make it. BUT over the summer she practiced, went to two volleyball camps, and practiced even more. They had tryouts at school and she went and did her best. SHE MADE THE TEAM!!!!! She was so happy, and we were so proud of her. Can't wait until the games start.

Tutorial ~ Ribbon Ponytail Holder

With school starting, there will be those days when a ponytail is needed. Some days you may wake up late....no time to fix the hair, so you pull it back. Or on game day when you want to wear your school colors. Over the years I have made my daughter a few of these. They are super easy and fast to make. So I hope you get a chance to make one too!

Great thing about this is you can make them with any colors, and theme ribbons like Birthdays, Valentines, St. Patricks, Halloween and Christmas.
My daughter likes these because they are not BOWS. But it's a fun way to "dress" up any plain ponytail.

To get started you will need:
-------------------------------
Grosgrain Ribbon (colors/print of your choice and width sizes)
Ponytail elastic band
Hot glue gun and glue stick ( in photos I used e6000 first but then decided to go with hot glue gun because it dries FAST.)
Lighter or match (used to heat seal your ribbon after they are cut)
Scissors

STEP 1:
Cut your ribbon the length you desire. If you leave them a little longer you can always go back and trim shorter.
I cut the longest one at 16" and then cut each on on top a little shorter.

STEP 2:
Take a lighter or match and hold the flame just at the tip of each end of ribbon to heat seal it. It will melt the ends some so it will not fray.

STEP 3:
In between each layer find the middle and place a dot of glue .
(I suggest using the hot glue gun because it will dry fast, so no waiting for glue to dry)

Step 4:
Cut a small piece of ribbon and glue on top in the middle, this will be wrapping around the ponytail holder. You can see it better in the next step.

STEP 5:
Once small piece of ribbon is dried flip over and glue the ponytail band in the middle. Just use small dot of glue.

STEP 6:
Now fold over one side and place dot of glue under the folded part, let dry and then do same on the other side.

STEP 7:
IF you are using E6000 you will need a clothespin to hold in place to dry completely. But if your are using hot glue and gun it will dry quick.

STEP 8:
Place in hair and step back and admire your work!!!!!

Ready for the change....

So you probably already noticed the change...on my blog. I am getting ready for Fall.

I love Fall, it's my favorite season. I love the colors of the leaves changing, the cooler air, and the smells of Fall scented candles filling the room. School is in full swing around here. Homework is starting to roll in. So before it got to crazy we decided to spend one more day at the beach. Last Thursday Shelby turned 13....YIKES...I have a teenager in the house now. And my birthday was Sunday so I wanted to have just one more relaxing day.

I suggested that I wanted no gift, but to ride to the beach and sit and enjoy our time. (Hubby and daughter did surprise me with a book. Have you seen the movie: Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts?? They got the book for me to read, I love it so far....so now I can't wait to finish so I can watch the movie) The beach was nice. It was hard to believe we have Hurricane Danielle and Hurricane Earl sitting out there near our beach. The water was a little rough but not to bad.

Can't believe the summer is almost gone!!

School starts back in just a few days, I will miss having my Girl here with me during the day. It's been a good summer. I finished up some custom orders over the summer but didn't get anything new done. I wanted a "lazy" summer so I could spend it with the Girl. I can't wait to get into the workroom and get back behind the sewing machine. I already have three custom orders in for Fall/Winter, and a new type of snap pouch coming out in a week or so. Excited!!

I have about two weeks until I am in FULL SWING. My Girl's birthday is on Thursday, she is turning 13.....YIKES....a teenager in the house. Then mine is on the following Sunday. I will be 39, OH MY!

I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer!!

I will be back to normal blogging soon.

Here's a Back to School Tutorial!!

Fancy Pens

Aren't they cute??

My daughter is about to start back at school. We were out shopping for supplies and picked up some pens. So I decided to do a cute tutorial.....make plain pens way cute with fabric and a little glue. Enjoy!

Supplies:
Ink Pens (Make sure the pens are clear see through.)
Scissors
Fabric pieces
Glue Stick

To get started, take your ink part out of your pen. I just pulled it out from the bottom.

And cut a thin strip of fabric (about the size to wrap around once, you DON'T want it thick or it will not go back in the pen.)

Rub your glue stick across the fabric.

Then take your ink part and roll up the fabric...if to wide just trim the fabric until it just goes around once. AND start your fabric at the top to the little plastic piece...notice where my fabric starts.

Roll up...and then trim off excess fabric at top.

Let it dry for a few minutes and then stick back into the pen.

It's DONE!!! Pretty easy.....

I was contacted the other week with a order that has something done with Mickey/Minnie Mouse theme. After a few emails and fabric samples we came up with this.....

C.U.T.E huh??? I know, it's the cutest custom order I think I have done yet. I love it, the lady loves it. She wanted two XLarge Carry It All Totes, two zipper pouches, and four keyfobs. (the keyfobs have dots and mickey/minnie heads). Can you guess where she is going....? ;)

I almost hate shipping it off, it's too darn cute!!

Lamp Re-do Tutorial

I had this cute little lamp in my craft closet for some time now, and decided it was time to "bring it back to life". So while I was working on it, I thought I would do a tutorial to go with it.

It wasn't a bad looking lamp first of all. I love the size of it..... AND it was FREE!!! (Gotta love that)

Here's what you will need........

Supplies list:
Old lamp (any size or shape) with lamp shade
fabric
trim
bias tape
scissors
pencil
glue gun
spray adhesive or glue stick
spray paint
tape or aluminum foil

Step 1:
Wipe down your lamp base with a damp cloth. Then take some tape or aluminum foil and cover the cord and bulb part before painting. With your spray paint (GO OUTSIDE TO PAINT) and spray lightly over your lamp base. I think I did about 3 coats, I try to spray thin on each coat until I get it covered good. While this is drying go start the next step.

Step 2:
Now it's time to cover the shade. Iron your fabric out and lay on a table. Starting with your back seam on the shade, place it at the edge of fabric. Make sure it's a big enough piece of fabric, you will be rolling it and marking it as you go.

Step 3:
As you roll your shade make small marks with a pencil on the wrong side of fabric, this will become your cutting line. Make sure you mark at bottom and at the top as you roll around.

Roll until you go all the way around back to the seam...mark just about 1 inch beyond that.

Step 4:
Time to cut the lamp cover out by following the lines you made.

When you get to the end just cut down to meet the bottom line.

Step 5:

Wrap you piece around the shade to see how it fits...you will have to play with it a little.

If it fits fine, then take shade outside and spray with adhesive. (this is sticky stuff so you may want to wear gloves). You can also use a glue stick and rub over the shade instead of the adhesive.

Step 6:

Now take the fabric piece and roll back on, (Start end at seam on shade) play with it until you get it on even. Take about 1/2 or 1 inch and fold over and run your glue stick on the inside of the fabric and press down. Let dry some.... Now you have your shade covered. (you may have to trim some fabric around the top or bottom.)

Step 7:

This step can be optional. I had some funky trim and decided to add to the bottom. I took my hot glue gun and run a small line at the bottom. Place your trim on it and continue until you have all trim on it. Again, make sure you start all seams at the same place the lamp shade seam does.

Step 8:
Take some bias trim and trim out the top. I opened mine and rubbed the glue stick down it, covering it good.

Then place it over the top. Sandwich the top between the fold. (When you get to the wire on the inside, you can just snip the bias tape a little so it will lay a little smoother at the wire.)

Step:9

Step back and enjoy your work. Cute and easy huh??

The good thing is that if you get tired of the shade, just find another and decorate it using the same steps. You can do holiday ones too.

Something Smells YUMMY

This morning I walked outside and something was smelling YUMMY! It was my two Gardenia bushes. Right now they are full of blooms....the only thing I wish is that Gardenia blooms would stay white longer, but boy do they smell sweet. Here's a few pics.

Weekend Crazies

I had a crazy weekend! I did enjoy it for the most part. The weather was beautiful and warm, we only had a small shower roll by but it was refreshing.

I think I made 4 trips to Walmart this whole weekend. Yes I said 4 trips...!! Call me crazy. It wasn't really all that bad. I found these cute little ice trays shaped in a star. Now come on, who doesn't like their ice in a shape of stars...I do! Are they cute or what???

I was busy doing a little sewing to. I had a custom order for some basket liners, window valance, and a memo board. The lady is fixing up her office. I just love the fabrics she picked out and oh my gosh...love love love the green zebra print. I love how all of it turned out.

Playing around...

I was out playing around with my camera the other day. I was using the Super Macro while taking photos of my flowers.

I am not for sure what happen to this one rose. This rose bush is FULL of deep red/burgnay roses, but this one some how is half white and half pink. It's the only one like it on that bush. It's good to be different.......

My hubby loves Sweet Williams flowers.....I think it's because his first name is William!! :o)

This is so pretty...and I love yellow in a yard. It just stands out. I would have nothing but white or yellow flowers if I could. They just make a yard pop.

Theses are the iris's I have....they are big and bright.

About a week ago a family friend was cleaning out her garage and gave us a storage unit. It's really cool.....

So after a little cleaning and a few coats of paint here it is now... I have it in my sewing room holding all my arts, crafts, and school supplies. I love it.

Yesterday we had crazy weather. Lots of rain, then snow, wind, then more rain and back to snow. At one point we had the biggest snow flakes I think I have seen. It was beautiful falling from the sky. It looked like we were in a snow globe and someone shook it.

Thought I would share a few custom orders I did recently. They went to three different people....but funny how they were all in the blue color.

Diaper Bag:
I recently had a friend contact me to see if I could create a diaper bag for one of our friends from High School that is having her second child. How sweet...I love this fabric, it's so FuN.

Inside the diaper bag(6 pockets and a key clip that doubles has a pacifier clip)

A wonderful customer liked that fabric too. So she contacted me through the website and wanted something large enough to carry to the beach or pool. She wanted it as a soft bag and with ribbon ties. So here's the Carry it all Tote bag. XX-large bag with 3 pockets and a key clip.

I just finished this dress last night for a close friend of mine. She works at a school and they are doing a play and need a Dorothy Dress. I have made one before her daughter so she asked if I could do another one. Cute huh? I think so....

Semi Healthy

I started this morning with a sweet breakfast. It was SO good. On Saturdays we like to have something fast and sweet for breakfast. Sometimes we like waffles with lots of butter and syrup, or Cinnamon Rolls, Orange Rolls...etc! The other day I spotted a Cherry Turnover pack and thought I must try them.

They are super easy and fast. The package comes with everything you will need. We loved them. I added some orange slices and Kiwi, plus a good cup of coffee and had a very tasty semi healthy breakfast.

If this is how it's going to be then I am moving.....

Today my husband and I spent the day De-Christmas-ing our house. It's nice to get things back in order and cleaned. Now I am looking forward to the New Year. Do you have any fun plans?? Well, I plan on staying at home and relaxing. I will be lucky if I am able to stay awake to watch the ball drop at midnight. The older I get the less I like shopping. I only enjoy it if I shop online.....no crowds, no getting out in the cold, etc. Today we went shopping to pick up a few more things for Christmas. I stopped off at the Dollar Tree store (doing some quick stocking stuffer shopping) and well this lady had one of those phone head sets on and she was talking while walking around. She was also wearing sunglasses in the store. Well I walked around her and went on my way to the other side of the store. This lady apparently was asking me a question....I didn't know!! She followed me to the other side of the store and said "Lady I was asking you a question about something?" So I turned and said "Oh I am sorry, I didn't know you were talking to me!" She then said "Yes, I figured you didn't, because you just walked on" then she turned and walked away. At that moment I decided it was time to go home and put my PJ's on and shop online.

*{To the lady at the Dollar Tree store....Please remove your sunglasses when entering a store so when you do have to ask a question, you can make eye contact with someone. And please don't wear your phone head set in the store so I won't think you are talking on the phone}*

Okay, now I have done a little venting I am ready to just sit and wrap some gifts!
